The
Bory Tucholskie National Park
Bory Tucholskie
- a land of unique landscape beauty, the kingdom of emerald blue
lakes, green woodland and forest of breathtaking glory. This is
the largest compact forest complex in Poland and covers over 300
thousand hectares.

Today's image
of the "Bory Tucholskie" forest complex was shaped over
15 thousand years ago during the last baltic glacial age.
The area has
a very rich network of streams, rivers and numerous lakes. The hydrological
base of the "Bory Tucholskie" forest complex are the Brda
and Wda rivers.
The land's greatest
treasure are forest, dominant of which are pine forest. In spite
that the presence of man has significantly changed the composition
of plant species, preserved have been almost all forest habitats
existing in the Central Europe Lowland.
The "Bory
Tucholskie" National Park was established on July 1,1996. The
national park has an area of over 4,789 hectares surrounded by a
protection zone of 10,292 ha. The whole area of the national park
was previously located in the Zaborski Landscape Park established
in 1990. Before the national park was established the whole area
was managed the Regional State Forest Management in Torun.
In administrative
terms, the whole area of the "Bory Tucholskie" National
Park is located in the administrative district of Bydgoszcz in the
municipality of Chojnice.

The national
park lies on the basin of the Brda river. It's landscape qualities
are connected with the exciting rich hydrological network with a
large quantity of streams and reservoirs, therein lakes with a large
quantity of streams and reservoirs, therein lakes with crystal clear
water. the park covers 18 lakes with an area exceeding 1 ha. and
three forest ponds. The whole area is almost in 90% covers with
forest and features lack of environmental contamination sources
in a large area, large share of water reservoirs of a classical
post-glacial genesis, existence of a large group of rare plant species,
therein many species of plant relics, richness in species, thought,
though not so voluminous, fauna or vertebrates.
Generally speaking,
the park has conditions favourable for the development of vegetation
units that have maintained their most natural properties and have
crated environmental conditions for the growth of vertebrates populations.
A broad diversity
of flora and fauna, constituting a reservoir of genetic resources,
gorgeous landscape, considerably clean waters, soil and air - are
all attributes of the "Bory Tucholskie" National Park.
